Manuela Viegas was born in 1957 in Porto.

After having given shape, as an editor, to essential pieces of the Portuguese Cinema directed by filmmakers such as João César Monteiro, Pedro Costa and Joaquim Sapinho, in which she printed her unmistakable touch, Manuela Viegas presented for the first time to an audience her directing début, GLORIA, at the 49th edition of the prestigious Berlinale – Berlin International Film Festival, becoming the first Portuguese director ever to be part of the Festival’s International Competition. For more than one decade Viegas has been lecturing editing classes in the cinema course of the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema.
